Mr. Anthony Makana

Anthony Lino Makana is a seasoned South Sudanese politician and farmer with over 30 years of experience (10 years of experience in humanitarian NGOs and 20 years in competitive elective politics).  As a senior member of the National Liberation Council of the ruling SPLM Party, he has held various leadership positions, including Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly, Minister of Transport and Roads, Minister of Trade and Industry, etc.

Makana holds an MBA from ESAMI Business School, MA in Post-war Recovery Studies from the University of York, UK, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Daystar University, Kenya. Furthermore, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Legislative Excellence and Community Leadership by International Academy of Peace based in Casablanca, Morocco.  In addition, he has received several international awards such as Pan African Humanitarian Award for his contributions.

A popular leader, Makana has won two general elections unopposed, a testament to his dedication and service to his constituency. As a Speaker of the National Parliament he has led initiatives such as South Sudan's entry into the East Africa Community and chaired the election of the first members of parliament to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).  He has also served on the Board of Governors of NilePet, a government oil company, and participated in key international forums, including World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial meetings and COMESA.

In his constituency of Yambio and throughout South Sudan, spearheaded development projects, such as pavement of 100s of kilometers of roads, expansion of Juba International Airport, constructing health centers and schools in Yambio and donating equipment to farmers and community leaders.
