Karah Ashley Germroth
Karah Ashley Germ Roth is a Licensed Master’s level Social Worker who is currently working as a psychotherapist for a tele-mental health agency and also is the Founder of Moyo wa Afrika organization. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Liberal Studies. Karah holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work and a second master’s degree in education. She is originally from the United States, growing up in Tennessee and later living in the great city of New York. Karah came to Tanzania in 2011 with a friend to volunteer teach and the rest is history… with brief moves to Malaysia, Thailand, and the United States in between, Karah has grown to love Tanzania and has lived here from 2011 to now. With interests in mental health, education, peace and conflict studies, and international development, Karah’s resume includes positions such as the Director of a Christian International School, County Director of an Arusha-based children’s home, psychotherapist, teacher, among others. Karah’s greatest passion, however, is shown through her work in Moyo wa Afrika—a small NGO which she founded and directs which assists people from remote villages in Tanzania to health and education services. Small but mighty, the organization has supported numerous students to secondary schools and universities, has given out hundreds of pairs of shoes, has conducted health and wellness trainings in vulnerable communities and has provided funding and support for lifesaving procedures for children and adults. Karah is the mother of four wonderful children and in her spare time (if there is any!), loves reading, travelling, and gardening.
